Introduction
I founded Your Personal Assistant on 4th January 2024, following my departure from my previous position as Group Marketing Manager for a logistics company. I had been toying with the idea of setting up this business for around eight months prior due to several conversations with friends and family who said they thought I would excel at this due to my background.
My yellow brick road
My journey along my figurative yellow brick road started in 1992 in my first position from college was a Team Secretary for a well known bank based in Bristol (my home town). I worked there for four years and subsequently left to work as a team secretary for a charity. It was in this position that I found my passion for marketing and following a restructure in the business, I left in 2000 and went to university in Manchester for four years to obtain my BA Hons in Marketing Management.
I finished university in July 2004 and in October moved from Bristol to Worcester to work for an AV & IT company. This job was a lot of fun as it involved the installation of AV and IT equipment into various exhibitions. I was a Sales Account Manager and was known for my tenacity to get orders. It was in this job that I was lucky enough to get to travel to many other countries which was exciting.
In 2008 I continued my journey but back to marketing as I realised that even though I loved the exhibitions industry, sales was not for me. I commenced a role as a Marketing Assistant for a global industrial ceramics manufacturer. In this role I was on the other side of exhibitions, going as an exhibitor rather than a supplier. I also started looking after the company’s websites and designing brochures / literature / exhibition materials.
Digital marketing specialism
In 2010 I was promoted to Digital Marketing Manager with sole responsibility for the digital marketing as the business had been going through some restructuring changes so new websites were required. At this point I also put in place an official strategy for social media as this was starting to become a “thing” for business, particularly in B2B.
In 2013, the business went through another restructure I took on the digital marketing for the whole business being promoted to Global Digital Marketing Manager. My work with this company took me to many different countries so I got to understand the different ways that communications messages are structured and how important it is to work with local teams to ensure messages are received in the way you intend them to be.
I left in 2017 after eleven years and went to a logistics company as their Group Digital Marketing Manager. This company had little digital presence at the time so the website was revised, I implemented the social media strategy and constructed several e-commerce websites for the B2C market.
In 2018 I was promoted to Group Marketing Manager as I became responsible for the offline marketing as well as the digital. This was my last position before I left in 2023 to continue down my yellow brick road to the Emerald City that is now Your Personal Assistant.
